1. Relax at Woolacombe Bay Beach

Woolacombe Bay is the perfect spot for you and your family to unwind and enjoy the beauty of North Devon’s coastline – one of our favourite free things to do in Woolacombe.

On warm, sunny days you can make the most sitting on the sand, dipping in the water, and enjoying stunning views. You might even be able to spot Lundy Island.

The beach also has an all-year-round dog-friendly section, so you can bring along your furry friends to enjoy a day at the seaside too.

2. Surf at Putsborough Sands

Somewhere we hung out a lot a few summers ago was Putsborough Sands. Despite being at the other end of the bay to Woolacomeb, getting there is a little bit more of the beaten track. But it is a hot spot for body boarding and surfing.

If you’re just starting out and fancy taking some surfing lessons, contact one of the local surf schools who will show you the ropes.

There’s also parking, toilets and Putsborough Beach Cafe where, alongside their freshly prepared daily menu, you can also hire equipment. And check out those views for caravaners!

3. Rockpool at Barricane Beach

Barricane Beach is a haven for rockpooling. At low tide, the beach reveals deep pools teeming with marine life. You and the kids can look out for the various species of crabs and other wildlife inhibiting the pools. You might even spot starfish.

4. Discover Combesgate beach

Combesgate Beach is a hidden gem, perfect if you’re wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of Woolacombe’s bigger beaches.

With its golden sands, rocky outcrops, and clear waters, it’s ideal for relaxing, exploring the tidal pools, or enjoying a family picnic. It’s also a favourite spot for surfers.

5. Play at Funder Island
