The season of steaming hot chocolates, misty mornings and warm winter woollies has arrived. To accompany these autumnal vibes is my guide to things to do in Devon in November in 2024.

What’s open in November?

With a lot of Devon attractions going into hibernation for the winter, or at least until their Christmas events kick off, you may be wondering what you can do in Devon in November.

Devon firework displays in 2024

Firework displays will be back with a bang in 2024! Keep an eye on my list of bonfire nights and firework displays in Devon for updates about local events as they are announced.

Salcombe Field of Light – daily until 5 January 2025

See artist Bruce Munro’s Field of Light in Salcombe Harbour this winter. The installation has been exhibited in the UK, USA and Australia and is coming to Devon to mark the 200th anniversary of the RNLI.

Here’s a video of Field of Light in Bath to give you an idea of what the 20,000 individual light stems can look like.

There will be viewing points around Salcombe Harbour. The installation is free to see.

Exeter Brick Festival – 3 November 2024

Celebrate all things LEGO at this brick-tactic event at Westpoint in Exeter. There will be live speed building competitions, brick built displays of all shapes and sizes, activities and traders selling everything from new sets to loose bricks.

The Three Musketeers at various locations – 9 and 30 November 2024

Get set for a swashbuckling adventure at the South Devon Players perform The Three Musketeers in Brixham and Kingsbridge.

This lively family show is adapted from the novel by Alexandre Dumas and set in and around the royal court of France.

With beautiful costuming, dramatic action scenes, and a fast moving story, the show is performed by a team of professional actors aged 11 to 65 from around South Devon.

In November the show is being performed at Brixham Theatre and Stokenham Village Hall.

Christmas Baking Workshop in Exeter – 9 November 2024

Join Ground Up Cookery School in Crockernwell for a day of festive fun and learn how to make a variety of festive sweet treats.

On the menu this year is Yule log, mince pies and a chow centrepiece.

Hatherleigh Carnival – 9 November 2024

The town of Hatherleigh in North Devon is hosting its annual carnival with a procession of floats, decorated houses and a tar barrel pull.

Winter Fairs at Buckland Abbey near Plymouth – selected dates 9 to 24 November 2024

Buckland Abbey is hosting a series of mini fares in the small barn this month giving visitors the opportunity for some early Christmas shopping.

Winter sculpture exhibition at RHS Rosemoor – 9 November 2024 to 31 January 2025

Explore the breathtaking colour, tone and texture of RHS Garden Rosemoor in winter as it provides the perfect backdrop a Winter Sculpture Exhibition.

Each year, a number of sculptors are asked to create inspirational pieces to help add to the beauty of our landscape. Pull on your woolies and enjoy some fresh air exploring at this award-winning North Devon garden.

Plymouth City Centre Christmas lights switch on – 14 November 2024

The City Centre’s Christmas lights switch-on will include family-friendly entertainment on the Piazza stage. Santa may also be making an appearance.

Glow at RHS Rosemoor – selected dates from 15 November to 28 December 2024

Make memories this festive season by exploring RHS Rosemoor’s magical trail of light and colour with six uplifting soundscapes to guide you through the garden rooms, woodlands and open spaces.

There will also be family entertainment every night.

Barbican Christmas lights switch on – 16 November 2024

There will be an afternoon of family fun ahead of the switching on of the Barbican Christmas lights in Plymouth.

Enjoy free entertainment and activities between midday and 6pm.

Winter Twilight Fest at Crealy near Exeter – selected dates from 22 November 2024

Visit Crealy Theme Park & Resort and explore the park’s rides in the dark alongside magical winter light displays.

Expect live music and entertainment as part of Crediton’s event to kick off Christmas.

Newton Abbot’s Christmas lights switch on – 23 November 2024

There will be daytime entertainment and street food in Courtenay Street before Father Christmas does the honours sitting on the town’s lights.

Lanterns, Lights and Luminations in Brixham – 22 to 23 November 2024

This popular event in South Devon returns in 2024 with a magical lantern parade, a firework display, live music, street entertainment, and a market.

This event is free to attend.

Christmas at Crealy Theme Park & Resort – 30 November to 24 December 2024

Crealy Mascots Buddy and Blossom Bear on ice skates

Crealy’s Christmas celebrations are set to return this winter. Expect a glittering show, Christmas activities and Santa’s toy shop.

Affinity Christmas Market – 30 November 2024

Head to Affinity Devon Shopping Centre in Bideford for late night shopping at brand outlets and a traditional Christmas Market.

At the market you’ll find Christmas-themed stalls, music and entertainment.

The market is also taking place on 7 and 18 December.
