What’s open in November?
With a lot of Devon attractions going into hibernation for the winter, or at least until their Christmas events kick off, you may be wondering what you can do in Devon in November.

What’s on in Devon in November
If you’d like to grab some fresh air this November here’s some ideas:
Lantern Trail at Canonteign Falls – 6 November 2021
Don’t forget your torch for this night time experience at Canonteign Falls on Dartmoor.
There will be a special lantern walk around the Lily Lake and a chance to see the stunning Clampitt Falls all lit up.
The snack bar will also be open selling hot chocolate and delicious soup to warm you all up after your walk. Normal admission price applies.

Locals weekend at Canonteign Falls – 12-14 November, 2021
Canonteign Falls on Dartmoor is offering locals a 50 percent discount this weekend.
If your postcode starts with EX, TQ or PL you can claim half price entry when you use the code ‘Autumn50’ to buy your tickets online. Don’t forget to bring proof of your postcode with you.

Illuminate Festival at Royal William Yard – 15 – 28 November, 2021
Illuminate returns in 2021 with a carefully curated programme responding to COVID, the Climate Crisis and COP26.
At 5.30pm every night for two weeks you can see light art and immersive experiences at Ocean Studios in Royal William Yard and the newly refurbished Market Hall in Devonport, Plymouth.
The event brings together projection mapping, bioluminescent artwork, illuminated murals and interactive installations from local and national artists.
It’s a free or super low cost to attend Illuminate – a winter experience that is bound to wow. For a taster of what to expect here’s what we found when we visited Illuminate Plymouth during the opening week.
Illuminate Festival, Royal William Yard and Market Hall Devonport
‘Roots Up’ Mayflower 400 commemorative event, Plymouth – 19 November 2021
Talented members of the Plymouth community, with ages ranging from eight years old right up to 86, will be performing a range of theatrical hip-hop pieces, titled ‘Roots Up!’ as art of the city’s Mayflower 400 commemoration activity.
Roots Up! has been organised by Plymouth-based charity, Street Factory, and falls on the historic anniversary of the first sighting of America by the crew and passengers aboard the Mayflower ship.
The two-hour production will present multiple creative elements of Hip Hop, including breaking or b-boying, MCing, DJ-ing, graffiti, rapping, poetry and spoken word, plus a bonus touch of R&B. There will also be a mass dance, set to the inspirational soundtrack of a brand new Hip Hop track called ‘STF That’s the Fam’.
Everyone is invited take take part in the mass dance. The Street Factory team has created instructional videos, so that everyone in the audience can learn the mass dance routine element in advance

Festive events get underway across Devon this month. Here’s where you’ll find what’s on from November:
Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker! at The Theatre Royal Plymouth
Nutcracker! provides family-sized helpings of Bourne’s trademark wit, pathos and magical fantasy.
Follow Clara’s bittersweet journey from a darkly comic Christmas Eve at Dr. Dross’ Orphanage, through a shimmering, ice-skating winter wonderland to the scrumptious candy kingdom of Sweetieland, influenced by the lavish Hollywood musicals of the 1930’s.

Slava’s Snowshow at The Theatre Royal Plymouth
This multi-sensory show for all ages set in a dream-like world will touch both your heart and funny bone!

Exeter Winter Wonderland
Set in the heart of the city centre, the new for 2021 Exeter Winter Wonderland is billed as a magical day out for the whole family to enjoy.
There will be an ice rink and Santa’s grotto as well as rides and locally-sourced festive refreshments.
The Winter Wonderland is free entry, with tickets available to purchase for the ice rink and Santa’s Grotto.

Christmas Village North Devon
With a real-ice rink, Santas Grotto experience and Christmas Market Village, Christmas Village North Devon is set to be a popular spot this winter.
The large, covered ice rink will have adult and toddler sessions daily during term time where skating aids and pushchairs will be welcome on the ice. You may even catch sight of Santa or some of your favourite characters from children’s TV on these sessions which are a bargain at £11 for one adult and child under five (additional adult tickets can be purchased).
In the Santa experience where you can make reindeer food, a decoration and write a letter to Santa on your way to his grotto where children will receive a present. Adults can join their children for free but won’t receive a present. Children’s tickets are £10 and the experience lasts between 30 and 45 minutes.
Enjoy local food and drink whilst picking up some locally made presents for the family.

The Polar Express™ at South Devon Railway
All aboard The Polar Express for a magical ride to the North Pole with South Devon Railway.
Join the Conductor and his crew as they recreate scenes from the film in the carriages as you journey between Buckfastleigh and Totnes before visiting Santa’s workshop.
The Polar Express, South Devon Railway, Paignton, selected dates from 20 November to 23 December 2021.
Train of Lights at Dartmouth Steam Railway
This magical illuminated journey through the South Devon countryside is a special Christmas treat that all ages will enjoy.
Board the vintage train carriages decked with thousands of fairy lights at Paignton and take a round trip to Kingswear. Along the way there will be a festive show at Churston Station.

The Polar Express™ at Seaton Tramway
The Polar Express is coming to Seaton Tramway in Devon this Christmas! Board this the magical tram ride to Santa’s home at the North Pole in one of the specially decorated single deck tramcars. There will be hot chocolate, a delicious treat and a chance to speak to Santa while you admire the awesome lights of the North Pole.
Children will also receive a gift from Santa.
The Polar Express, Seaton Tramway, Seaton, 26 November to 24 December 2021.
Christmas at Powderham Castle
Powderham Castle’s light walk returns this Christmas along with extra indoor festive displays.
This year the castle doors will be thrown open to visitors so they can explore the decorated state rooms and experience a Victorian Christmas below stairs.
The light walk has grown and will extend over a mile from the panoramic deer park views to the secret garden through the enchanted woodlands.
The light maze also makes a return, bigger than ever, and alongside winter garden games. Plus, there will be music, delicious food and warming mulled wine and cider bars.
This was a sell out event in 2020, so get your tickets quick!
Christmas at the Castle, Powderham Castle, near Exeter, 29 November to 31 December 2021.
Glow at RHS Rosemoor
This magical light trail through the gardens at RHS Rosemoor near Torrington, North Devon, will have its longest ever route with striking new light features.
As well as the light trail there will be festive refreshments and plenty of gift ideas in the garden centre.
Book tickets to see the lights from 4.30pm to 8.30pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 18 November to 18 December and at the same times Monday to Thursday from 20 December to 30 December.

Christmas at Killerton
A brand new, after-dark illuminated trail runs through the gardens at Killerton this Christmas.
See twinkling lights and hear the air filled with seasonal sounds around this National Trust property north of Exeter. Don’t forget to look out for Father Christmas along the way.

Lanterns, Lights and Luminations in Brixham
This popular event in South Devon returns in 2021 with a magical lantern parade, a firework display, live music, street entertainment, and a market.
Market stalls and entertainment start at 10am, the lantern parade takes place at 5pm, followed at 6pm by the Christmas light switch on, arrival of Santa and fireworks.
This event is free to attend.

Clovelly Christmas Lights
Head to Clovelly from 3.30pm on 28 November 2021 to see the Christmas Lights switched on. The local brass band will procession down to the harbour where there will be carols, a hog roast and other festive refreshments.
Don’t miss a visit from Father Christmas himself and seeing the entire village and harbour lit up.
The grand finale is a firework display to add even more sparkle to this opening event to the Clovelly Christmas season.
Entrance fee: £5 per car at the Visitor Centre after 3 pm. All proceeds to RNLI.
