Christmas is a wonderful time to visit a National Trust property. The staff and volunteers pull out all the stops to decorate houses and grounds in the style of Christmas’ gone by or with family-friendly winter activities. And if you have National Trust membership this can be a really low cost festive day out.

A Christie inspired Christmas at Greenway near Galmpton – selected dates from 21 November to 31 December 2026

Step back in time to the 1940’s this Christmas. Agatha Christie has gone to London, packing up her bags and putting her belongings safely in storage. Not to worry though, she’s left Greenway in the care of a small group of evacuee children and their teddy bears to spend their first Christmas in Devon.
The house and gardens are open weekends in the run up to Christmas and then from the 27 December until New Year. There is also a selection of festive workshops that can be booked in advance.
Admission to Greenway is free for National Trust members. Parking is limited and must be booked online in advance.

A Storybook Christmas at Arlington Court near Barnstaple – selected dates from 21 November 2026 to 3 January 2027

This Christmas step into the magic of a Storybook Christmas at Arlington Court. Wander through the beautifully decorated house as classic tales come to life, taking you across oceans, into the skies and through enchanting gardens.
Families can take part in our Write Your Own Story Trail from 21 November to 3 January, creating a unique adventure as they travel around the grounds, spinning a wheel at each stop to choose characters, overcome challenges and decide how their story ends.
For an extra sprinkle of Christmas magic, visit on one of the evening openings on 1, 8 and 15 December it experience Arlington after dark.

A Roaring 20s Christmas at Coleton Fishacre near Brixham – selected dates from 21 November 2026 to 3 January 2027

Coleton Fishacre is marking its centenary in 2026 so what better way to celebrate Christmas than with a festive party reminiscent of the Roaring Twenties. There’ll be glitz, glamour and a hint of gin as we all end the year with a bang.
Outside take a bracing walk around the coastal garden with its wonderful sea views and warm up with a treat at the cafe.
Admission is free for National Trust members.

Merry and Bright Christmas at Knightshayes near Tiverton – 28 November to 2 January 2027

Bring the family along to experience a bright and joyful Christmas at Knightshayes. Inside the house, the Gothic Revival interiors come to life with rich colours and playful details. Each room has its own vibrant Christmas theme, with twinkling lights and bold statements.
Get out into the gardens, join the festive trail, filled with fun games and challenges for the old and young, and help Knightshayes keep the lights glowing.

1950s White Christmas at Buckland Abbey near Plymouth – selected dates from 28 November 2026 to 3 January 2027
Step through the Great Barn and into a forest of trees which will transport you back to a 1950s ‘White Christmas’.
Get lost and discover vintage festive wonders such as a traditional market stall, a post box where you can send a letter to the North Pole, or take photographs in Father Christmas’s sleigh.
Be sure not to miss the tallest town square Christmas Tree at the end of the barn.
Inside the abbey you can discover how Christmas was celebrated during the 1950s. Step back in time and rock around the clock with 1950s records, discover traditional toys and games, a ‘Ritz-style’ Christmas party, and learn how Christmas Dinner was made in the rationed and post-rationed era.

Christmas at Killerton near Exeter – selected dates from 28 November 2026 to 3 January 2027
Experience the magic of a 1924 Christmas in the house with the Acland family. Wander through rooms adorned with traditional festive decorations and immerse yourself in the season.
Playful activities for all ages lead you through the garden, parkland and chapel grounds on our outdoor play trail.
Marvel at the creatively decorated community Christmas trees around the property and in the chapel.
