Where to go pumpkin picking in Devon in 2025

Visiting pumpkin farms is one of our autumn highlights. The kids dress up in their Halloween finery and we head to our local pumpkin patch where there’s an astonishing collection of gourds in all shapes, sizes and colours – perfect for decorating our doorstep.

Read on for where to find pumpkin patches around Devon this year. To help you find where to pick pumpkins near you, I’ve split this guide into South, East, Mid and West Devon.

PYO Pumpkins in South Devon

Here’s where to find pumpkin farms in South Devon:

Pumpkin patch at Pennywell Farm

What’s on: enjoy the usual Pennywell Farm activities, rides and animal encounters, plus seasonal picture opportunities, pick up a pumpkin and explore the pumpkin trail. There’s prizes to be won too! Dress up as a scarecrow to receive a treat when you arrive.

Admission: included in entry price for Pennywell Farm. Tickets must be booked in advance.

Pips Pick Your Own, Yealmpton

What’s on: simply pick your own pumpkins. Wheel barrows are available. Dates will be announced in September so keep an eye on Pip’s Facebook page.

When: 3 October 2024

Admission charge: FREE

Where: Yealmpton, Plymouth

Terawhiti Farm, South Milton

What’s on: come and pick big ones, small ones, warty ones and ghost pumpkins, then treat yourselves to hot food and refreshments from the Rose Farm food van.

You can also ride the Pumpkin Express, have your face painted and have a go at the coconut shy.

No dogs are allowed in the pumpkin fields but are allowed on a lead in other areas.

When: 5 and 6 October, and 12 and 13 October 2024

Admission charge: FREE

Where: South Milton, Kingsbridge, TQ7 3JT.

The peeps at the farm say: “Do not use your Satnav and avoid Upton to avoid narrow lanes. Come via the A381 West Alvington to Salcombe stretch, taking the South Milton turn and drive through the village following the 20mph signs.”

PYO pumpkin at the Surfing Cow

What’s on: as well as pick your own pumpkins at this delicious Devon Ice Cream place you can spend an evening exploring its torchlit maize maze.

Aune Valley will be onsite each evening with hot food and each child with a ticket for the maze will get a Halloween themed goodie bag. Bring your own torches.

The pumpkin patch is open from midday.

When: from 26 October 2024

Admission charge: FREE entry to the pumpkin patch, £5 per person for the torchlight maize maze

Devon Pumpkin Picking in Paignton

What’s on: there’s a lot more than pumpkin picking on at this new patch in Paignton. Pick you own, take part in the Golden Pumpkin Competition, have a family photoshoot and enjoy homemade refreshments.

When: weekends from 5 October 2024

Admission charge: FREE

Dawlish Pumpkin Patch

What’s on: Smallacombe Organics are hosting a new eco-conscious pumpkin patch in the field next to the Smuggler’s Inn with a huge variety of pumpkins of different sizes, shapes, and colours. There will also be fun family-activities, spots for autumnal photos and organic produce on sale. Wellies are a must!

When: weekends from 5 October 2024

Admission charge: FREE

Aunt Valley Funky Pumpkin Fest, Higher Coarsewell Farm

What’s on: PYO pumpkins at Aune Valley Meat’s family farm. There will also be food and drink, games and other activities on selected dates over half term including photo shoots.

When: 26 to 31 October 2024

Admission charge: FREE entry with charges for some activities.

Shute Fruit and Produce, Teignmouth

What’s on: pick your own seasonal vegetables and fruits at Shute Farm. What’s available changes monthly so keep an eye on the farm’s website to see when pumpkins become available this year.

When: Open until the end of October, whether permitted. Check the website before you travel.

Admission charge: FREE

Pumpkin picking in North Devon

Here’s where to find North Devon pumpkin patches:

The BIG Sheep’s pumpkin patch

What’s on: Book tickets for The Big Sheep theme park and you’ll have access to its pumpkin patch as well as plenty of other spooky activities including a monsters ball, fancy dress competitions and a witches flying school.

When: 25 October to 2 November 2024

Admission charge: standard theme park admission charges apply.

Pick pumpkins in Mid Devon

There’s loads of pumpkin farms to pick you own in Mid Devon:

Jolly Pumpkin, Silverton, near Exeter

What’s on: there will be more than 50 varieties of pumpkin and gourd in the fields at Jolly Group’s farm to the north of Exeter, as well as a dino maize maze and plenty of picture opportunities.

When: 5 to 6, 12 to 13, 19 to 20, and 25 to 31 October 2024

Admission charge: Tickets for entry time slots can be bought in advance and cost £1.50 (under 2s go free but require a ticket)

Where: Silverton, Exeter, EX5 4DU

Orway Farm, Cullompton

What’s on: 15 varieties of pumpkins have been planted this year so their will be a colourful crop of pumpkins ready to greet you.

As well as gourds there’s tractors to play on, animals to meet and refreshments to help you refuel.

When: 14 ,15, 21 to 29 October 2024

Halberton Court Farm Shop, Tiverton

What’s on: come and pick your perfect pumpkin and indulge in a treat from there farm shop’s The Swans Neck Cafe.

When: TBC in 2024 (check the Farm Shop’s Facebook page for latest information on availability)

PYO Pumpkins in East Devon

Find pumpkin patches at these East Devon farms and attractions:

Pick Your Own Pumpkins Exeter, Exminster

What’s on: lots of activities including laser clay shooting, monster truck rides and inflatables as well as catering on site with hot food and drinks.

When: 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 – 31 October 2024, 9am to 5pm each day

Admission charge: FREE

Where: Days-Pottle Lane, Exminster, EX6 8BB

Heron Farm in Honiton

What’s on: There’s no patch this year but you can take part in a pumpkin trail around the farm. Navigate your way around the trail to find the hidden pumpkins, each with a clue to the mystery word!

Solve the riddle and there’s a prize waiting for you back at the café!

When: 21 to 29 October 2024

Admission charge: fee entry to the farm, £5 per trail sheet.

Where: Weston, Honiton, EX14 3NZ

Crealy Adventure Park and Resort, Exeter

What’s on: Expect Halloween shows in the arena, the Creaky Hotel, a scarecrow maze and a free pumpkin for every child.

When: 19 to 20 and 25 to 31 October 2024, and 1 to 3 November 2024

Admission charge: standard theme park admission charges apply.

Where: Sidmouth Road, Exeter, EX5 1DR

Darts Farm, Topsham

What’s on: a Pumpkin Festival takes place at Darts Farm each year. Head down to the gazebo by The Hen House on the front field, wait for a member of the team to give you instructions and head out on to the pumpkin patch! 

When: the festival usually happens over Devon’s October half term. Check before you visit!

Admission charge: £2.75

Please note: the time slot you book is your arrival slot – you can then stay as long as you like (closing at 4:30pm)!

(*please note, ticket price does not include a pumpkin and pick-your-own is an additional charge. Some activities are also an additional charge on the day.)

West Town Farm, Ide

The 2024 pumpkins are planted at West Town Farm and will be available to pick over one weekend.

When: 27 and 28 October 2024

Pick up a pumpkin at this spot in West Devon:

Pumpkin Fest at Strawberry Fields, Lifton Farm

What’s on: Pumpkin Fest returns to Lifton Farm with lots of family fun from pumpkin picking and carving, to a magic show and a pirates maize maze. Dogs on leads are allowed.

When: 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20, and 26 to 31 October 2024.

Admission charge: £2.50 to £4 per person. Book your timed entry online

Sam’s pumpkin Patch, North Tawton

What’s on: pick your own pumpkins and indulge in some treats from the barbecue and refreshment stalls.

When: 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 to 31 October 2024.
