A visit to Totnes Rare Breeds Farm
Totnes Rare Breeds Farm is a lovely small Devon attraction for families. Those with young children will particularly enjoy feeding the goats, ducks and sheep.
The farm is run by a team of dedicated volunteers who know the animals well and are happy to answer questions about them.
There are rescue owls, red squirrels, donkeys, rare breeds of sheep and goats, as well as aviaries of wild fowl.

Opening times
Totnes Rare Breeds Farm’s opening times are 10am to 5pm daily in the summer season.
It is closed between October and March. Check the website for exact opening dates.
Totnes Rare Breeds Farm and Steam Train
The Farm is a lovely small attraction that will take about an hour to visit. To make it a full day out, buy a combined attraction ticket with South Devon Railway, which is just next door, and the Dartmoor Otters and Butterflies Sanctuary.
Cafe
The cafe at Totnes Rare Breeds Farm sells cold food, cakes and light lunches including lunch boxes for kids.
The cafe is outside the farm entrance. You can’t eat food inside the farm but there is a small picnic area next to the cafe.
Toilet and baby changing
There are no toilets or baby changing facilities at the farm. These are located on the platform of South Devon Railway next door.
Totnes Rare Breeds Farm location
The entrance is tucked away between the old Dart Valley branch line and modern mainline between Exeter and Plymouth. This makes it a bit tricky to find but persevere because it’s worth it.
At the bottom of the car park on the south bound track at Totnes Train Station take the path signposted Dartington. Stay to the right as this is also a cycle path.
When you reach the River Dart go under the rail bridge and up the path on the right to the pedestrian river crossing. This takes you to the platform at South Devon Railway. Walk to the far end and cross the tracks to find the farm entrance.

Totnes Rare Breeds Farm parking
The closest car park is on the southbound side of Totnes Train Station. This is a commuter car park and parking is charged per day. There is no hourly rate.
For cheaper parking park at Totnes Leisure Centre or in one of the town centre car parks. You can pay for these using the Ringo app.
Bear in mind that there is still a reasonable walk to the farm from Totnes Train Station.
Prices
In 2023, entrance to the farm costs £9.50 for adults, £9 for OAPs and £8 for children. There is a family ticket for two adults and two children for £32.
You are given wrist bands and stickers so you can come and go during the day.

We went two days ago. We are going again. We parked by following the signs to the Totnes swimming pool. Parked on hourly fee. £1.20 per hour. Had a nice walk to the farm. And after at the car park there was a nice children play ground. Very good location. It’s very relaxed with pletely of outdoor seating for light snacks at the cafe.
