As May 2023 approaches the whole country will be buzzing with anticipation for this very royal event. There’s bound to be street parties happening all over the place but if you’d like to find public coronation events in Devon you’ve come to the right place.

King Charles III’s coronation will take place on Saturday 6 May 2023. However, there will be special events to celebrate this historic event over several days including the extra Bank Holiday on Monday 8 May.

Coronation celebrations in Brixham – 3 to 8 May 2023

Brixham Future Partnerships are organising six days of celebrations between May 3 and May 8.

Celebrations include a Coronation Breakfast on the heritage trawler Vigilance, music concerts, a Coronation Parade and a firework display from around 9pm on 7 May. 

King Charles III’s coronation will also be shown live in the Brixham Theatre cinema 6 May.

Kings Coronation craft workshop with Pom Stitch Tassel in Bovey Tracey – 6 May 2023

Join Pom Stitch Tassel on Coronation Day for an afternoon creating a pom pom garland worthy of a King or Queen!

This workshop is suitable for children aged 5 and over. Both children and adults are welcome to attend.

Live Coronation screening in Plymouth – 6 May 2023

Plymouth has been chosen as one of 35 locations around the country to have a big screen where people can gather to watch the King’s Coronation live.

The screening will take place at Plymouth Guildhall and is free to attend.

Celebrations in Newton Abbot – 6 to 7 May 2023

There’s lots being planned in Newton Abbot to celebrate over the Coronation weekend.

On Saturday 6 May Courtenay Street will come alive with music on stage while street performers mingle with the crowds. There will be free balloon modelling for children.

Meanwhile Newton Abbot Library will be screening the coronation of His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen Consort.

On Sunday 7 May, there will be a party in Courtenay Park from midday until 4pm with a band concert, face painting, magical bubbles, balloon modelling, make and create children’s activity stall, Coronation selfie frame and free giveaways.

Bring a picnic and join in the fun.

Torbay Coronation celebrations – 6 to 7 May 2023

Torbay Council is hosting a weekend of celebration including a big screen to show the Coronation on Torre Abbey Meadows in Torquay and a firework display on Paignton seafront. Both will take place on 6 May.

The celebrations will continue on Torre Abbey Meadow on 7 May with an afternoon of live entertainment and performances from local acts, before the Royal Coronation Concert is broadcast on the big screen.

Celebrate the coronation at Powderham Castle – 6 to 7 May 2023

The coronation of King Charles III will be shown on a big screen at Powderham Castle on 6 May followed by a celebratory concert on 7 May.

Tickets for these special events will be sold on a ‘pay what you can’ basis. Profits go to the British Red Cross.

You can also upgrade your experience by donating £25 or more and receive VIP treatment including a deck chair, Pimms and strawberries and cream.

Coronation party weekend at Dartington Estate – 6 to 7 May 2023

There will be a screening of the Coronation, live music and fancy fun on the lawn at Dartington Hall over the bank holiday weekend.

This is a free event to attend but there are some bookable, paid activities.

Cavog’s Coronation Fun at Kents Cavern – 6 to 8 May 2023

Cavog, Kents Cavern’s resident caveman, is very excited to celebrate King Charles’ coronation! 

He’ll be decorating the site and has convinced the restaurant team to serve a Coronation Afternoon Tea. Cavog has also been trying on different crowns around the site, the only problem is, he doesn’t remember where he left them all.

Coronation celebrations in Dawlish – 6 to 8 May 2023

The seaside town of Dawlish is laying on a weekend of celebratory events including a live showing of the Coronation ceremony, a picnic on the lawn and entertainment. 

There will also be a special street market on Monday 8 May.

Party in the Park in Victoria Park, Ivybridge – 7 May 2023

The churches in Ivybridge have organised a free celebration including open-air worship, followed by the Big Lunch Picnic, and a BBQ.

For entertainment there will be bouncy castles, games and musical entertainment.

There will be fun for all the family at The Kings Arms in Tedburn St Mary with live TV coverage, a bouncy castle and live music.

Coronation Party in the Park in Colyton – 6 May 2023

A community coronation party will take place in the Peace Memorial Playing Fields on the evening of 6 May.

There will be live music a bouncy castle, face-painting, a BBQ and a bar.

Street party in Sidmouth – 7 May 2023

Sidmouth Chamber of Commerce is hosting a ticketed street party in Market Square. Tables of six must be booked in advance and numbers are limited.

Honiton Town Council is joining in the nationwide Big Coronation Lunch with an all day event at Allhallows Playing Fields.

There will be music from local bands, a disco, and children’s entertainment. Bring your own picnic or buy something from one of the local vendors.

A Coronation Special at Exmouth Pavilion – 8 May 2023

Here’s a Coronation event for big band fans. Exmouth Rotary hosting a charity event in aid of the Prince’s Trust and in celebration of the Coronation.

AJ’s BIG BAND will provide the music alongside dancing and Last Night of the Proms style entertainment.

Coronation Variety Show in Ilfracombe – 3 to 4 May 2023

The Space will be hosting a royal variety show on the evenings of 3 and 4 May.

Tickets are available from Ilfracombe Tourist Information Centre.

Coronation celebrations at The Plough Arts Centre, Great Torrington – 5 to 6 May 2023

The Plough Arts Centre is hosting Rock The Monarchy on the evening of Friday 5 May with three local bands playing.

Then. on Saturday 6 May the Coronation will be screened from 10.30am. For late night revellers there will be a DJ playing from 7pm into the night.

Crown making at Barnstaple Library – 6 May 2023

Visit the Library on Tuly Street between 10am and midday for crafts fit for royalty. Kids can make their own glittering crown.

Party in the park in Ilfracombe – 6 May 2023

A party is being planned at Bicclescombe Park with a banquet of coronation chicken sandwiches and cream teas. Other activities include a hook a duck, coconut shy and the stocks. 

Live Coronation screening at Bideford Pannier Market – 6 May 2023

The Victorian Pannier Market is hosting a live screening of the Coronation ceremony from 10am. There will also be games, a free lunch from noon and a bring and share picnic.

Sea pageant in Lynmouth – 6 May 2023

To mark the Coronation Lynmouth Sailing Club is holding a sea pageant with decorated vessels leaving the harbour at 5pm.

There will be music and the flotilla will parade around the bay.

Live music and BBQ at Clovelly – 6 May 2023

Head to Devon’s car-free village for live music and a barbecue on the harbour on the evening of the Coronation.

Celebrations at South Molton Pannier Market – 6 May 2023

Great Britain’s best community market will be decorated for the Coronation and the crowning ceremony will be shown live in the Assembly Rooms.

There will also be free face painting, stilt walkers and a Victorian fairground organ alongside more stalls and attractions.

Royal weekend at RHS Rosemoor – 6 to 8 May 2023

There will be live music in the gardens in Great Torrington to celebrate the Coronation. You can also bring a picnic or buy something from the café and join in ‘The Coronation Big Lunch’ on Sunday.
