Events in October half term 2022

Whether you enjoy the thrill of being frightened or prefer something a little less freaky you’ll find plenty happening around Devon during the October school holidays.

As I hit publish on this post, only a few October half term events have been announced. But expect that to change very soon! Bookmark this post and come back to see what’s been announced.

Halloween in Mid and East Devon

Halloween at Bear Town – TBC 2022

Book your little monsters in for a spooktacular visit to Bear Town near Cullompton this Halloween.

Bear Town is a unique role play centre where your little one can try a host of “grown up” jobs, from vets and mechanics to firefighters and hairdressers. Children are encouraged to let their imagination run wild and ‘Learn Through Play’.

Alongside your two hour play session will be a Halloween treasure hunt, Halloween treats and spooky dressing up – all included in the standard ticket price.

Don’t worry, it will be all treats and no tricks, making this a super fun Halloween adventure for little ones.

Sessions remain strictly limited, so early booking is strongly advised to avoid disappointment.

Crealy Spookfest – TBC 2022

There’s a host of fearsome activities on at Crealy Adventure Park & Resort during October half term with some a little scarier than others.

Expect Halloween shows in the arena, the Creaky Hotel, bewitched singing pumpkins, a scarecrow maze and a free pumpkin for every child.

Spookfest takes place from 23 to 31 October 2021.

Ghost hunt at Seaton Tramway – TBC 2022

Help hunt down ghosts and ghouls at Seaton Tramway this October half term in exchange for a sweet treat.

Come dressed for the occasion and pick up a free trail sheet at the Seaton or Colyton Stations before your ride. There will also be spooky activities happening at the stations.

Pumpkin patch at Pennywell Farm – TBC

Enjoy the usual Pennywell Farm activities, rides and animal encounters, as well as picking up a pumpkin and exploring the farm’s the pumpkin trail.

Visit any day in October to enjoy this fright-free autumnal experience.

Hallooscream and Marty’s Monster Manor at Woodlands Family Theme Park – TBC 2022

Woodlands will be decked out for Halloween with plenty of series sights and sounds around the park as well as the return of Marty the friendly monster and his Monster Manor (additional charge).

The farm is the place to head for the best Halloween action. This is where you’ll find the pumpkin patch, a spooky grave yard and the ghost farm tractor ride.

Halloween at Kents Cavern, Torquay – TBC 2022

Bring your little witches, wizards, ghosts and ghouls to Kents Cavern near Torquay this October half term!

Head into the mysterious underground world of the caves to find the hidden pumpkins, piece together a riddle and and claim your Halloween prize.

Get up close to weird and wonderful stalactites and even come face to face with the bones your ancestors.

Spooky season at Paignton Zoo, Paignton – TBC 2022

Grab your broomsticks and head to Paignton Zoo for some frighteningly good Halloween half term fun.

There will be a Wizard Workshop each day between 10.30am and 4pm, where with the help of some mystical characters, children can make their very own spooky spell book mark to take home. You don’t need to pre-book this craft activity, just turn up and take part! It’s included in the entrance price.

Come along in fancy dress and find out more about some of the animals at Paignton Zoo as the team give fang-tastic talks at some of the animal enclosures through out the day.

Spot mini spooks at Babbacombe Model Village, Babbacombe – TBC 2022

There will be sized down spooks to spot at Babbacombe Model Village this October half term.

How many will you see frightening the village’s regular residents? Also, from 27 to 29 October see the village illuminated during the evening (see the website for opening times).

Torbay Steam Fair at South Devon Railway – TBC 2022

The Torbay Steam Fair is joining forces with the South Devon Railway to bring you an end of season steam rally at Buckfastleigh Station.

Come and view a selection of full size and miniature traction engines along with a small display of vintage cars and tractors. Entry to the displays is by donation. Gates open from 10am.

Kids for a quid at South Devon Railway – TBC 2022

Children can take a return trip on South Devon Railway this half term for just £1*.

Join one of our steam trains from either Buckfastleigh or Totnes and take a trip beside the River Dart through unspoilt countryside. Use our services to take you between neighbouring attractions or even head in to town to visit the various shops and cafes on offer. Book ahead online to avoid disappointment and beat the queues.

Halloween fun at Totnes Rare Breeds Farm – TBC 2022

This half term Tontes Rare Breeds Farm is running a special Spook Hunt around the farm.

Find all the Spooks and win a tasty treat! Plus all of our usual fun of meeting the Eerie Owls, feeding the Gobbling Goats and cuddling a Ghastly Guinea Pig.

Fright nights at Shaldon Zoo, near Teignmouth – TBC 2022

Visit Shaldon Zoo dressed in your favourite costumes for a fancy dress competition and a spooky walk to see all the animals who love to be awake after hours.

Book your visit between 3.30pm to 5.30pm on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 October and one adult can accompany a paying child for free. Additional adults charged at ticket price of £6.50.

Halloween Extraveganza at Plym Valley Railway – TBC 2022

Ply Valley Railway will have special spooky services running over the Halloween weekend so come dressed in your best scary outfit!

Saturday evening also sees the awaited return of our Story of the Lost Driver – a creepy railway tale told on board the train!

Pumpkin Fest at Lifton Farm – TBC 2022

Pumpkins for sale at a pumpkin patch in autumn.

Pumpkin Fest returns to Lifton Farm in 2022 with lots of family fun from pumpkin picking and carving, to a mystical magic show and a haunted maize maze.

This year’s event will be ticketed.

Halloween in North Devon

Halloween at The BIG Sheep – TBC 2022

Families with toddlers can get an exclusive preview of the halloween fun planned at The BIG Sheep this October with pre-half term open days just for them.

Pre-school aged children with an EX postcode can book their visit between 10am and 2pm from 18 to 22 October when there will be a Halloween Monsters Ball including dancing with Jiggy Wrigglers, a fancy dress competition, pumpkin patch and all the usual Big Seep fun.

From 23 October the park opens to monsters of all ages with plenty of seasonal fun such as a witches flying school, a ghostly band, Halloween decorations and that all important pumpkin patch.

You can also spot seven posters showcasing Britains farm toys around the park until the end of this month. There’s a Britains trail sheet and photo frame. The best snap posted to Facebook or Instagram will win more than £100 worth of Britains Farm Toys. T&Cs apply.

Autumn Carnival at RHS Rosemoor – TBC 2022

Visit RHS Rosemoor for an autumn garden trail and plenty of fun half term activities.

Help the garden’s detective to solve the puzzle of why some leaves change colour in autumn, paint pumpkins, get crafty with leaves and prepare your very own winter lettuce to take away and grow at home.

There will also be a Halloween disco on Saturday 30 October.

Some activities are chargeable and available on specific dates over half term.

Halloween at The Milky Way – TBC 2022

Ride the Halloween Express, bump around the Spooky Swamp Dodgems and catch Merlin’s special themed show at The Milky Way this October half term.

There will also be a fancy dress competition and a treasure hunt with a sweet treat for children aged top to 12-years-old.

Half term fun at Watermouth Castle – TBC 2022

The Watermouth Castle theme park will be dressed for Halloween, so come along in your best spooky outfits for a fun day out.

There will also be a chance to win prizes from the Castle’s cauldron.

Where to pick pumpkins in Devon

Last year this was one of our autumn highlights. The kids dressed up in their Halloween finery and we headed to our local pumpkin patch where there was an astonishing collection of gourds in all shapes, sizes and colours – perfect for decorating our doorstep.
